What Laser Tag Gear Do We Use?

In 1994,  Tomy Toys came out with a tag gun called the Electronic Survivor Shot (above).  These guns used  the same infrared frequencies (1.87 KHz/57KHz modulated signal) as the original 1986 Worlds of Wonder Lazertag, but have a slightly longer range (about 250 ft).  This new gear also comes with a 360 degreehead sensor that could be easily hit in full sunlight.

The sensors can take 6 hits with a two second sensor and trigger delay between each hit.  In 1994,  we adopted this new tag gear and gained more members since the ESS were available in the toy stores.  We quickly modified the red light on the head sensor to a switchable red or green light to distinguish teams during night games.

Several of us in the group have modified our guns with larger lenses and more powerful infrared emitters to give us extra range (see Seattle Lazer Tag Club Custom Guns) .   Recently, with the help of some electronically talented members of our group, we have been developing our own Electronic Survivor Shot clones.   If you would like to join us, we have plenty of gear to loan to new players.
